5 GENERATIONS

Celebrating a living tradition five generation strong, CAMUS reflects today over 155 years of entrepreneurship, testified by the milestones of a family legacy which has marked every succession with crucial passages.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

CAMUS is a family business with an international attitude, driven by the passion and dedication of its people who strive to create products of the highest quality and splendor. Behind this vision there’s an ethos, which combines human skills like refinement, expertise and mastery of time, all devoted to genuinely reflect the best from a unique Terroir, and that is resumed by our philosophy.

TASTE

We always seek the exceptional & we are absolutely passionate about taste.

TERROIR

We create Cognacs which reflect the best from our Terroir.

LIVING TRADITION

We celebrate a living tradition five generation strong.

INDEPENDENCE

We value independence in a world dominated by standardization.

OUR DOMAINS

The CAMUS vineyards are part of a magnificent estate of 280 hectares (691 acres), located in the best area within the Borderies Cru, in the very heart of the Cognac appellation. Borderies is the oldest and smallest cru in the appellation, representing less than 5% of the cognac AOC. 188 hectares (464 acres) of this estate are cultivated with grapes, surrounded by forests and naturally preserved areas, representing the largest extension of vineyards belonging to one single producer within the Cru.

The family ensures that the vineyards are cultivated in a sophisticated and responsible manner, allowing the fields to accumulate organic matter, while preserving the wildlife in the surrounding environment.

LA GÎTE

La Gîte is the main domain of the Camus family, set deep in the heart of the Borderies Cru. Built in a magnificent Charente style, this estate was bought in 1991 by Jean-Paul Camus. The family vineyards surround the house, framed by woods with a varied natural life.

LE PLESSIS

Also located in the Borderies area, the Chateau du Plessis is the Camus family home, where we currently host our guests. The foundations of this castle date back to the sixteenth century. Its towers overlook gardens and vineyards, surrounded by a river.

SINCERITY

Our resolutely independent firm stands for sincerity and honesty. We believe in freedom of thought and freedom of action. Camus is proud of its genuine expertise and the ability of its people to implement it. Cyril Camus is assisted by a passionate team who share the common mission to create the best Cognacs in the world by reflecting the features of an exceptional Terroir in a most transparent way.

DETERMINATION

Our brand holds its own against largest companies in the sector with ambition and drive, and has the courage to uphold its promises. CAMUS works with talented and patient people, who are devoted to Cognac, a product which requires time, above all else.

JEAN-BAPTISTE CAMUS

(1835-1901)

In 1863 Jean-Baptiste Camus took the lead of a small group of winemakers who intended to become independent from the most important Cognac merchants and created a consortium under the name of ‘La Grande Marque’. In later years he bought back the shares of his associates and placed his products under the name ‘Camus La Grande Marque’.

GASTON CAMUS (1865-1945)

At the beginning of 19th century Gaston Camus travelled throughout Europe, developing a special partnership with the Société Depret, well established in Russia, which allowed him to expand relatively quick on the Russian soil and become an official supplier of the Tsar.

MICHEL CAMUS (1911-1985)

In the early 60’s Michel Camus showed a pioneering and visionary approach, becoming a key supplier of the rising tax-free business. This allowed CAMUS to qualify over the years as a leader brand in the Duty Free sector.

JEAN-PAUL CAMUS

(1945)

Under Jean-Paul Camus, the company undertook an expansion in the winemaking domains by enlarging the ownership in the Borderies cru, where his great grandfather tended grapevines.

CYRIL CAMUS (1971)

Celebrating the 5th generation of the family legacy, Cyril Camus focused on building a far-reaching global distribution network, with a strong Chinese presence marked by the opening of the distribution subsidiary Yuanliu and by his nomination as one of the top 50 people to have strengthened Sino-French relations.
